quick thought on the world, religion

Ever thought of how many religions there are in this world? It’s such a wonder, in my opinion! What more, than also knowing that though a majority believe in a god, many of them, different versions, and so on, and how their origins have a geographical distribution pattern!

Churches in America are tax-free! How interesting! And otherwise banned, illegal drugs have been approved simply with the believing that it will bring religious favour and the whatnot….. wow.

If only we humans could just agree on a “World Government” system, life would definitely be for the better! Transparency for all government bodies, everybody is happy. I know, this sounds too simple, but.. can we all just work towards that? A safer and more peaceful world for our successors, where “religious killings” and all the absurd stuff are absent! We have no need to kill our own kind..

Anyways, we do have a certain level of peace around the world now as how I see it. So people, keep the good deeds going, thank all those around you who make your day better!

how does the human mind work?

If the human mind really works like this to determine interest:

1. Find similarity

2. Find differences

3. Conclude level of interest

Do they sound too simple? I cannot say much; this is just by pure observation, though I hope I could be right.

Example: Say I love a DC Comics superhero, Batman. Immediately one would associate with Marvel, and other popular firms, right? So I see an ad on Iron Man, which let us presume I have not heard of before this. Would this 3-step thing seem relevant, then?

How about for determining if a person could be your BFF, soul mate, or whatsoever..? I’m really curious how this works. By personal experience though, the steps as mentioned earlier do seem to play true. Brain wrecking!

SUTD: Women in Engineering & Design

Had such a fun time at SUTD for a workshop today! It was the third time they organised this event. Notably, it was targeted a mainly the females, but guys were invited as well. Eye-opener, got to see how girls are actually gaining interest in engineering (pure observation, correct if I’m wrong!), perhaps SUTD’s efforts are paying off after all. Though too early to say, engineering may no longer be stereotyped as a guy (and geek)’s CCA, and more. Almost all who attended were JC students, did not manage to spot any Poly students! :o

Life at SUTD sounded outwardly exciting as apart from the usual University routine in Singapore, the students were subjected to (which I think graded) ‘practical’ challenges, such as one they did was the pneumatic air-compression potato launcher, similar to what you see in YouTube here.

My group, a small one of 3 members, was approached by later identified as what the students studying at the institution as the school Principal / President’s “right-hand man”. Engage in a conversation with us, he did, and shared a couple of videos regarding the particular event they held with their students. Not bad at all. He then brought us on an exclusive trip, to the Fabrication Labs, Milling and etcetera facilities. Usually they do not permit entry to non-institution-affiliated people, one thing to note :D How cool was that, seeing those awesome machines! If I get access, photos from the trip, courtesy of their kind students, will be published here. :)

Also, had a chat with a student there, found out his friends did initially have plans to establish a Nerf-related club as a CCA there, while the institution had yet to have any CCAs in existence. There seemed to be an issue with the authorities due to some reason.. BUT. They do not know. Just near their campus at the abandoned, en bloc apartment area, was the warzone for previous highly and massively successful Nerf wars by Singapore’s very own NerfSG! HOW COULD THEY! There is no need for permit!

Also mentioned on my Twitter feed, SUTD seems to be practising handpicking for their entrant students, to ensure diversity and vastness in the “ecosystem”, or call it environment instead if you will. There seems though, to be a very warm air (not literally, though could apply so) of family, especially since I was told of how the principal(s) and lecturers of SUTD are such caring people, making their students feel right at home.
